What Are Warman® Slurry Pump Shaft Seal Selection? - Introduction

Warman® slurry pump is one of the recognized world leading in supplying horizontal slurry pump, heavy duty slurry pump, slurry pump selection, vertical slurry pump, sump slurry pump, submersible slurry pump and sand gravel pump, which are highly used for mineral processing, mining, power, oil, gas, chemical and general industries.

Shaft seal is identified as one of the most important mechanical elements, sharing by China Slurry Pump Do® Pump engineer, and the correct Warman® slurry pump shaft seal selection must be carefully identified to match each individual pump system. More than that, China slurry pump research the development on shaft seal selection which deliberately injects slurry particles into a typical standard slurry pump shaft seal to cause wear of the shaft sleeve, therefore, what are Warman® slurry pump shaft seal selections?

What Are Warman® Slurry Pump Shaft Seal Selection? - Centrifuge Seal

What is centrifugal seal of slurry pump? Centrifugal seal is a dynamic dry seal, it is a type of rubber lip seals of grease lubricated packing, which operates when slurry pump is operating and has no seal effect when the slurry pump is stationary.

The slurry pump selection on centrifugal seal consists of expelling vanes which is installed on the back side of the slurry pump impeller, the expeller is rotating in unison with the slurry pump impeller acting as a turbine in order to reduce the pressure, the pressure comes out with the centrifugal focus created by the rotating impeller, in another word, the centrifugal pressure does not only push the slurry out of the slurry pump, but also cause the shaft seal worn in short time if the slurry pump shaft seal is not selected properly.

The selection of centrifugal seal on slurry pump shaft seal is one of the common selections in slurry application system, because of the centrifugal seal characters of effectiveness and simplicity, however the selection of centrifugal seal on Warman® slurry pump is limited on specific pump size by the pump inlet pressure, Warman® pump performance, and slurry pump rotating speed.

What Are Warman® Slurry Pump Shaft Seal Selection? - Gland Seal

The gland seal selection on Warman® slurry pump shaft seal is also called with packing seal, which is also a most common selection on slurry pumps in slurry pumping systems. The gland seal is combined with stuffing box, lantern ring, packing, gland, neck ring and a shaft sleeve for water seal restricted flow, and stuffing box, lantern restrictor, packing, gland and shaft sleeve is build a water seal full flow.

The selection on gland seal to Warman® slurry pump requires continuous liquid lubrication and cooling between the rotating shaft sleeve and the packing, in order to protect the slurry pump shaft sleeve which is fitted to the pump shaft, and prevent over heating of the packing seal.

The liquid which is mostly using watering inject into the gland seal requires a higher pressure than the slurry pump pressure, for example, if the 4/3C-AH Warman® slurry pump is working at 35 meters head, the water pressure to gland seal is larger than 35 meters in order to push the slurry back to the slurry pump body pumping out, on the other hand, if the water pressure is less than pump pressure, the slurry will be in the gland sleeve damaging the shaft sleeve, stuffing box etc.

What Are Warman® Slurry Pump Shaft Seal Selection? - Mechanical Seal

Mechanical seal is which another type of shaft seal highly selected on Warman® slurry pump, the selection of mechanical seal is common used on power plant, coal preparation, mineral processing, chemical plant etc, where no liquid is allowed to leak out from the slurry pump seal. The slurry pump mechanical seal is designed with stationary part and a rotating part that are pressed together under mechanical and hydraulic pressure.

The advantages of mechanical seal that are selected on slurry pump are no leakage on seal system, and the silicon carbide which are used for mechanical seal material can help slurry pump operate in a wearing life; on the other hand the mechanical seal is cost more than the other two slurry pump shaft seals, and the damage of mechanical seal requires pump disassemble totally in wet parts.
